Meet Our Team

  • Joey Whelan - President/Artistic Director/Founder

Joey has had a great love of the theatre since he was a child, performing skits in his elementary school talent shows. He sought to deepen his knowledge of acting by studying it extensively in high school and college. While attending Paradise Valley Community College, he fell in love with directing and writing his own plays. Joey had fantasized about owning his own theatre for a long time, but finally made efforts to begin that process in 2019. After a long journey to mount their first production, Showcase Community Theatre opened their first show in 2021. Though he mainly focuses on Showcase endeavors, Joey continues to collaborate with other theatres in the valley, having done work with Brelby Productions, Ghostlight Theatre, and Arizona Opera. He believes in a strong community where everyone feels valued and appreciated in their efforts to do the art they love.

  • Daniels Williams - Vice-President

Daniel is excited to be apart of Showcase. He has been in several shows, such as Paradise Valley Community College’s Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. His most recent role was in PVCC’s production of Romance, Romance. In 2018, he got the pleasure of assistant directing PVCC’s production of Peter and the Starcatcher and was thrilled to assistant direct Showcase’s first production Much Ado About Nothing.

  • Kelly Jones - Secretary

Kelly has been a part of theater for four years and has loved all aspects of it! She has acted in shows such as Much Ado About Nothing and I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change. Kelly has also designed for shows like 26 Pebbles and Curious Savage. She is about one year away from graduating ASU with a bachelors in design focusing on Set and Props!

  • Lex Cobb - Treasurer

When Lex isn’t in the theatre, you can find them on film sets doing hair and makeup. Having worked on 8 films (and counting), Lex has found a love for both live theatre and film. When not acting or doing makeup, they enjoy doing digital art, karaoke, journaling and writing letters for pen pals.

  • William Buckley - Head of Community Outreach

William Buckley has been a part of the theatre community in Phoenix since 2018, having studied the thespian arts in Texas for several years. He has done shows across the Valley, from Sun City West to Mesa. Among his professional and community work are: Arsenic and Old Lace, A Streetcar Named Desire, A Nice Family Christmas, Much Ado About Nothing, films of Macbeth and No Exit, as well as a radio broadcast of Miracle on 34th Street. As a board member with Showcase Community Theatre, Buckley has enjoyed participating and helping produce Much Ado About Nothing (again!) and A Christmas Carol. He looks forward to continuing into full seasons with Showcase and thanks the public (plus friends and family!) for their generous support of community theatre. William Buckley also has dreams to one day delve into the film industry, God willing!

  • Marissa "MJ" Beckett (they/them) - Social Media Manager

MJ has been doing stage craft since their sophomore year of high school and stage management the last 7 years all around the Valley. You may have seen them working for Paradise Valley Community College, The Bridge Initiative, and Southwest Shakespeare. Their mission in Showcase Community Theatre is to develop not only themselves, but others as well. We all have something to teach one another! They would like to thank their family, friends, and amazing partner for their continued support.

  • Light Mosser - Technical Director

Light Mosser is the creator of the PXL Narrative Role-Playing Game, which you can find out more about at playpxl.com. Beyond that, Light is a Storyteller by nature whose goal is to inspire people to follow their dreams, as well as to create an avenue to help those dreams come true. Your life is for doing what you love. If you don't wake up excited every day, you're doing it wrong. The biggest obstacle in achieving your dreams is the belief that you can't do it. You can. It's not too late.

  • Tyler Publik - Head of Fundraising

Tyler is a person who got into acting later on in his life. He has participated in a number of shows while attending Paradise Valley Community College. He is excited to have been welcomed onto the Showcase team!

  • Ben Mosedale - Member-at-Large

Ben Mosedale has been an active member in local Arizona theater for the past 4 years. He is excited to collaborate with his friends on this project.
